Tobii and STMicroelectronics have begun volume manufacturing of an advanced interior sensing system for a premium European automaker. The platform uses a single wide-FOV camera that works in daylight and low light, enabling both driver and occupant monitoring to raise safety and UX.

Built through close co-development, the system pairs Tobii’s attention-computing stack with ST’s VD1940 image sensor—a 5.1 MP hybrid pixel device that captures RGB (day) and IR (night) through one sensor and covers the entire cabin. Tobii’s software processes dual streams to power DMS and OMS simultaneously. ST is ramping capacity to support demand.
Tobii (via Tobii Autosense) already has 160+ vehicle design wins for DMS/OMS in production. The VD1940 is part of SafeSense by ST, a safety-grade sensing platform with functional-safety and cybersecurity features. As an IDM, ST controls design and manufacturing in European fabs, providing supply assurance; devices are in mass production and ready for Tier-1/OEM integration.
